How to detect anemia in pregnant women

Anemia is a very common phenomenon after pregnancy. Anemia is very harmful to the health of pregnant women, especially to the fetus. If you want to prevent anemia during pregnancy, you need to eat more blood-enriching foods to prevent it. Anemia does not seem to be a serious disease, but the harm caused by anemia cannot be underestimated. Generally, pregnant women find out whether they have anemia from blood routine tests. So how do pregnant women detect anemia in blood routine tests?

How to detect anemia in pregnant women?

Anemia in pregnant women is determined by two indicators: red blood cell count and hemoglobin. In our country, when hemoglobin is <100g/L, red blood cell count is <3.5×10/L or hematocrit is <0.30, it can be diagnosed as anemia in pregnancy. Anemia can be divided into four levels:

Mild: red blood cell count (3.0-3.5)×10/L, hemoglobin 81-100g/L;

Moderate: red blood cell count (2.0-3.0)×10/L, hemoglobin 61-80g/L;

Severe: red blood cell count (1.0-2.0)×10/L, hemoglobin 31-60g/L;

Extremely severe: red blood cell count <1.0×10/L;

What are the types of anemia in pregnant women?

1. Iron deficiency anemia

It is a type of anemia caused by iron deficiency in pregnant women.

Judgment criteria: hemoglobin ≤ 30g/L, serum ferritin < 6.5µmol/L, can be diagnosed as iron deficiency anemia.

Recommendation: Pregnant women can eat more iron-containing foods, such as animal liver, animal blood, lean meat, etc. In addition, eating more fruits and vegetables rich in vitamin C can also promote pregnant women's absorption of iron and relieve the symptoms of iron deficiency anemia.

2. Megaloblastic anemia

It is anemia caused by lack of folic acid and vitamin B12 in pregnant women.

Judging criteria:

Serum folate <6.8nmol/L and red blood cell folate <227nmol/L indicate folate deficiency.

Serum vitamin B12 <90pg, indicating vitamin B12 deficiency.

Recommendation: Pregnant women should eat more foods containing folic acid, such as spinach, asparagus, etc.

3. Aplastic anemia

It is caused by biochemical reasons or diseases that lead to failure of bone marrow hematopoietic function.

Judgment criteria: Bone marrow puncture and bone marrow examination are required for diagnosis.

Suggestion: Although the treatment may be troublesome, you should still actively cooperate with the doctor's treatment.

Therefore, during pregnancy, if the hemoglobin level is lower than the standard index and the red blood cells are lower than the standard index, it can be determined that the pregnant woman is anemic. Anemia in pregnant women can be divided into several types, such as iron deficiency anemia. Pregnant women with this type of anemia can relieve such symptoms by eating iron-containing foods. There is also aplastic anemia, but this type of anemia needs to be treated in the hospital.
