Placental function level 3

Placental function level 3

Placental function level 3, which is a grading of placental maturity. The placenta will gradually mature as the fetus grows, and there are generally four levels of placental maturity. Level three is the final stage of the placenta. During this period, the placenta has begun to show signs of aging. During this period, the risk level to the fetus will also increase greatly. Below, we will introduce you to the relevant knowledge about placental maturity in detail!

1. What is placental maturity?

The placenta will gradually mature as the pregnancy progresses. When it matures to a certain extent, its function will decline, just like aging, and it will not be able to provide nutrition and oxygen to the fetus normally. The placenta maturity grade is a standard used to measure the maturity of the placenta, which is usually divided into 4 levels, as follows:

There are four levels of placental maturity: 0, 1, 2, and 3.

Grade 0 indicates that the placenta is not yet mature: usually in the second trimester, around 12-28 weeks of pregnancy.

Level 1 marks the early stage of placental maturity: 30-32 weeks of pregnancy, the early stage of placental maturity, can also transmit nutrients to the fetus.

Level 2 indicates that the placenta is mature: generally after 36 weeks of pregnancy, the placenta is close to being mature.

Level 3 indicates that the placenta has aged. Due to calcification and cellulose deposition, the placenta's ability to transport oxygen and nutrients is reduced, and the fetus is in danger at any time.

2. Placental maturity level 3

At 38 weeks of pregnancy, the placenta enters grade 3, indicating that the placenta is mature. When the placenta reaches level 3 maturity, it should be checked at any time to prevent placental aging and danger to the fetus.

In late pregnancy, the function of the placenta decreases as the fetus matures. The aging of the placenta means that the function of the placenta is significantly reduced, which may affect the development of the fetus. If the fetus is mature, early delivery is required.

The so-called placental aging refers to the decline and reduction of the function of the placenta, which results in fetal hypoxia, malnutrition, developmental delay and fetal distress, and even stillbirth, stillbirth, neonatal asphyxia, etc. The long-term consequence is fetal brain cell necrosis and poor development, and ultimately leads to mentally retarded children.

Placental aging is actually not a very scientific issue, because the placenta, like the baby, has a process of occurrence, growth, development, and maturity. Many people think that it is aged when it reaches stage 3. In fact, after 35 weeks, stage 3 only guarantees its maturity, not its aging. The function of the placenta is based on many examinations, such as the amount of amniotic fluid, the fetal heart rate monitoring, and some biochemical tests, which can also tell whether the placenta is functioning well.

3. What level of placental maturity is required for pregnancy

At what level of placental maturity can one give birth? Generally, natural delivery can be successful if the placenta maturity is level 1 or 2. Placental maturity level 1 means that the placenta is basically mature, and level 2 means that the placenta is already mature. It is normal to give birth at this time. However, if the placental maturity has reached level 3, it means that the placenta has begun to age and may pose a danger to the fetus. At this time, pregnant women should follow the doctor's instructions and take appropriate measures.
