Symptoms of calcium deficiency in late pregnancy

Pregnancy is a very important thing for many people. They are very concerned about this aspect of pregnancy in their daily life because they are afraid that they will be very careless and cause problems with the child. However, many times, there are some reasons that they are not aware of that cause some physical conditions, such as calcium deficiency symptoms in mothers in the late pregnancy. When this symptom occurs, it will also cause a certain impact on the child in the body. So what symptoms can we use in daily life to judge whether we are calcium deficient?

Pregnant women with calcium deficiency generally experience the following symptoms:

1. Calf cramps, especially at night, please note: some pregnant women do not have calf cramps even though they are calcium deficient; leg cramps in pregnant women are not necessarily due to calcium deficiency.

2. Loose teeth.

3. Pregnancy-induced hypertension syndrome.

4. Joint and pelvic pain. If you experience these symptoms, consult your doctor to determine whether you have a calcium deficiency, as other problems during pregnancy can also cause these symptoms.

What calcium tablets are good for calcium supplementation in late pregnancy

1. Inorganic calcium tablets. Common ones include calcium carbonate, calcium hydrogen phosphate, calcium chloride and calcium oxide. Inorganic calcium tablets are high in calcium, but have low water solubility. After entering the body, they must be dissociated into calcium ions by gastric acid before they can be absorbed and utilized by the human body. Some pregnant women who take this type of calcium tablets may experience gastrointestinal irritation symptoms.

2. Organic acid calcium tablets. The main ones are calcium gluconate, calcium lactate and calcium citrate. Most organic acid calcium tablets have a low effective calcium content, but they are more water-soluble than inorganic calcium tablets and have relatively less irritation to the gastrointestinal tract of pregnant women.

3. Organic calcium tablets are the third generation of calcium supplements. Common ones include amino acid chelated calcium, L-calcium threonate, calcium glycinate, L-calcium aspartate, etc. Amino acid chelated calcium tablets have the advantages of high calcium content, are independent of the dissociation effect of gastric acid, and are fully absorbed and utilized. They are currently the most ideal calcium supplement for pregnant women.

What is the daily calcium supplement in late pregnancy?

Generally, 800 mg/day is needed in the early stage of pregnancy, 1200 mg/day is needed in the second stage of pregnancy, and 1500 mg/day is needed in the late stage of pregnancy and lactation. However, the average person's diet can only supplement 300-400 mg per day, so pregnant women generally suffer from calcium deficiency. You can supplement calcium by drinking milk or soy milk. Generally, milk powder for pregnant women contains sufficient calcium. Every 1 ml of milk can supplement 1 mg of calcium, so if you drink 2 cups of milk a day, which is 500 ml, you can supplement 500 mg of calcium, which is enough in the early stages of pregnancy. In the middle and late stages, it is best to drink three cups of milk, and that, combined with the calcium from food, is enough. However, if you cannot drink milk, or do not like drinking milk, you need to choose calcium supplements based on your diet.
