Breast lumps when weaning a child

Breast lumps when weaning a child

At present, for the healthy growth of children, they will be weaned when they reach a certain stage and provided with milk powder as a supplement. But some women find themselves with lumps in their breasts after they’ve weaned their child. This is all caused by excessive accumulation of milk. Because after the baby is weaned, the breasts still secrete milk. So, what should you do if there are lumps in your breasts after you wean your child?

Weaning refers to the process of stopping the breasts from secreting milk after weaning a child. The baby's breastfeeding period is generally 6-12 months. During the weaning period, the milk supply gradually decreases instead of disappearing all at once. If the mother does not pay attention to her diet and lifestyle during the weaning period, her breasts will swell several times, causing unbearable pain and endless troubles. In mild cases, the breasts may become deformed and sag, and the mammary glands may be damaged. In severe cases, the breasts may become inflamed or even lumpy and fester, increasing the chances of breast hyperplasia and breast cysts after weaning.

1. If your breasts are swollen and uncomfortable, you can squeeze out the milk, but don't squeeze it out completely, otherwise it will promote milk secretion and have the opposite effect.

2. During the weaning period, you should pay attention to reducing stimulation to the breasts and nipples. The secretion of prolactin will decrease, and the secretion of milk will gradually decrease. Never allow your baby to suck your breast milk or touch it, and avoid using hot water to rinse your breasts when taking a shower.

3. You can use ice packs to cool your breasts to relieve the feeling of swelling.

4. If you find a lump in your breast, rub it with your hands in time to prevent mastitis.

5. When choosing diet during weaning, you should avoid foods that promote milk secretion, such as peanuts, crucian carp, pig's trotters, soups, etc. Eat less protein-rich foods to reduce milk secretion.

6. Try to avoid using hormone drugs or milk-suppressing injections, as they can easily cause breast atrophy or milk secretion problems.
