What to do if pregnant women have vulvar itching

Most cases of maternal vulvar itching are caused by vulvar inflammation. After delivery, as lochia is discharged, the perineum is in a humid environment for a long time, providing good conditions for the growth of bacteria. If not properly cared for, infection is likely to occur. Vulvar itching is a common clinical symptom of gynecological inflammation. Clinically, vulvitis is divided into many types. Different types of vulvitis have certain differences in treatment and medication. Let us learn about them together below.

Experts point out that postpartum women’s vulvar itching and abnormal leucorrhea are considered symptoms of vaginitis. In addition, yellow urine and painful urination may indicate urinary tract infection. You should drink more water and pay attention to hygiene. As for leucorrhea, it is best to go to the hospital for a routine check-up and receive treatment after a confirmed diagnosis.

It is recommended to do a gynecological examination, including abdominal B-ultrasound examination, and test the routine leucorrhea to identify the cause. First of all, pay attention to the cleanliness of the vulva. Do not wash the vulva with soap; try to restrain scratching and rubbing the affected area; avoid spicy food; pay attention to avoid emotional depression and tension. If the symptoms still cannot be relieved, go to the hospital for treatment. Find out the cause of maternal vulvar itching and treat the cause.

Vulvitis is an inflammation of the vulva caused by invasion of pathogens or various adverse stimuli. It can exist independently, but is more often complicated by vaginitis, urinary tract diseases, anorectal diseases or systemic diseases, or is one of the manifestations in the pathological process of certain vulvar diseases. The clinical manifestations are itching, pain, burning sensation and even swelling, rash, erosion and ulcers of the vulvar skin.

Clinical manifestations of vulvitis:

1. In the acute phase, patients often complain of pain, itching, redness, swelling, and burning sensation in the vulva, which worsens during activities, sexual intercourse, urination, and defecation.

2. Chronic vulvitis is often accompanied by vulvar itching.

3. Gynecological examination may show redness, swelling, pustule formation or ulcers on the vulva. Chronic vulvitis is manifested by local skin or mucous membrane thickening, roughness, and cracking.

When a woman has vulvar itching, she must actively treat it:

1. Actively and effectively treat the primary disease.

2. Local treatment: Keep the vulva clean and dry to avoid adverse stimulation. Choose different liquid medicines for sitting baths, and apply antibiotic ointments, antifungal preparations, etc. to the vulva.

3. Antibiotics can be used appropriately for patients with fever and increased white blood cell count.
