Can I have sex if I have urethritis?

There are many pathogens of urethritis, which can easily lead to cross infection after suffering from urethritis. Therefore, women should not have sex after suffering from urethritis. They can only have sex after complete treatment. In addition, during the illness, if having sex will produce adverse stimulation, it may also lead to worsening of symptoms. For patients, it is important to pay attention to good treatment, pay attention to conditioning during treatment, and maintain private hygiene.

If female patients have sexual intercourse during the period of illness, they will transmit urethritis to their partners:

1. Trichomonas urethritis: Trichomonas is highly contagious and can be transmitted through sexual intercourse. If a woman has Trichomonas urethritis, she can transmit the infection to her partner during sexual intercourse.

2. Non-gonococcal urethritis: The pathogenic microorganisms are chlamydia and mycoplasma. When women with this type of urethritis have sexual intercourse, pathogens hidden in the urethral mucosa will take the opportunity to invade their partner's body.

Doctors say that it is best not to have sex before urethritis is cured to avoid double infection. Because the urethral opening moves inward during intercourse, the vagina and bladder neck become congested, and those with a urethra that is too short can easily induce inflammation.

During treatment, women should also pay attention to the following points:

1. Diet: Patients should drink plenty of water, maintaining more than 3000cc of water per day; avoid irritating foods, alcohol or coffee; consume fruits containing vitamin C, oranges, lemons, and plum juice to keep urine acidic.

2. Lifestyle: Pay attention to personal hygiene. After women go to the toilet, toilet paper should be used to wipe from the perineum to the anus. Do not wipe back and forth. Empty your bladder at least every 3 to 4 hours. Be moderate in sexual intercourse and urinate before and after intercourse.

3. If you have sexual intercourse within 3 months after clinical recovery of urethritis, it is recommended to take a dose of effective antibacterial drugs after intercourse.

4. Pre-marital physical examinations for men and women should include urine routine tests. If any abnormalities are found, urine bacterial culture should be performed. If you meet the criteria for asymptomatic bacteriuria, you should be treated actively and can only get married after the urine culture turns negative three times.
