What should I do if my areola becomes larger?

I believe many women will encounter this problem. In daily life, we often find that the gray area around our breasts has become larger. This gray area is what we often call the areola. Enlarged areola may appear normal, but it may not be normal. Generally speaking, after most women pass puberty and development, their areolas generally stop growing. So, what should we do if our areolas become larger?

The enlargement of the areola seems normal, but it is actually abnormal. After the developmental period, the areola generally will not grow any larger. So what are the reasons for the enlargement of the areola? For this question, we asked a medical plastic surgery expert to find out. There are many reasons why the areola may become larger. Generally speaking, regardless of the cup size of the breasts, the diameter of a normal areola is 3-5 cm and its color is pink. The areola becomes increasingly visible with the onset of puberty. Due to factors such as personal constitution, sucking, pregnancy, age (cell) aging, female hormone secretion, and excessive nipple stimulation, the areola will gradually become larger and its shape will also become larger. There are several possible reasons for the enlargement of the areola:

1. Heredity: Soon after some women are born, their parents will find that their children’s areola is larger than other children of the same age. This may be due to genetic factors.

2. High estrogen secretion: Some women find that their areola is larger than others during puberty. This may be due to high estrogen secretion in the body, which leads to pigmentation of the areola. This is the main reason for the enlargement of the areola.

3. Pregnancy: It is the main reason for the enlargement of the areola. During pregnancy, some women secrete a large amount of estrogen, and the mammary alveoli and mammary ducts proliferate, so the areola gradually enlarges and becomes more protruding, preparing for feeding the child. Pregnancy is also the main reason for the enlargement of the areola. When breastfeeding ends, it is difficult for the areola to return to its original state.

It can be seen that the most common situation is the enlargement of the areola caused by pregnancy. Because during pregnancy, the estrogen in our body will reach an unprecedented level. In this case, it is very normal to experience breast tenderness and darkening of the areola. So, generally speaking, this phenomenon does not cause any major harm to the body.
