Why do my nipples become enlarged and painful?

There are many reasons for nipple pain. When they feel pain, many people mistakenly think they have breast cancer. In fact, it is not that serious. Women will experience different physiological symptoms at different stages. For example, during puberty, our nipples may become larger and more painful due to growth and development. Such symptoms may also occur during pregnancy due to breastfeeding. In most cases, there is no need to worry, and you can recover your health through some simple conditioning.

Breast tenderness during adolescence: It usually occurs between the ages of 9 and 13. The tenderness and pain will disappear on its own after menarche.

Premenstrual breast pain: Many women experience breast fullness, hardness, and tenderness before menstruation. In severe cases, the breasts will swell and hurt even with slight vibrations or collisions. This is due to increased estrogen levels in the body before menstruation, breast hyperplasia, and edema of interbreast tissue. The above changes may disappear after menstruation.

Breast tenderness during pregnancy: Some women experience breast tenderness around 40 days of pregnancy due to the placenta and villi secreting large amounts of estrogen, progesterone, and prolactin, which causes the mammary glands to enlarge and cause tenderness in the breasts. In severe cases, the pain may last throughout the pregnancy and does not require treatment.

Postpartum breast pain: Breast fullness, hardness and pain often occur 3 to 7 days after delivery. This is mainly due to mammary lymph retention, venous congestion, interstitial edema and obstructed mammary ducts.

Breast pain after abortion: This is because the pregnancy is suddenly interrupted, and the hormone level in the body drops suddenly, causing the newly developed breasts to suddenly stop growing, resulting in breast lumps and breast pain.

Breast pain after sexual intercourse: This is related to the physiological changes in the breasts during sexual intercourse. People with low libido or an disharmonious sex life cannot achieve sexual satisfaction, so the congestion and swelling of the breasts are not easy to subside, or they subside incompletely. Continuous congestion can cause breast pain.

It can be seen that this type of pain is usually short-term pain, which usually lasts for three to five days. Usually it won't last too long, but if a friend finds that the pain lasts too long and becomes more severe, and at the same time there are lumps in the chest, then there is a high probability of problems such as breast tumors. At this time, the editor recommends that you go to the hospital for treatment in time to prevent the disease from spreading.
